As I was browsing some profiles yesterday, I came upon this pick up line…
Do you believe in love at first sight or should I walk by again?
It did make me chuckle a little.
I’m sure you’ve read your share of cheesy pick-up lines. Maybe you’ve even tried a few out.
I think pick up lines are designed to temporarily slow your brain so you talk to the person who you might not normally talk to.
For instance, it was early evening and I’m waiting at a bus stop This guy comes up to me and says something like:
“If I cook, clean, and buy your groceries can I stay at your house?”
First of all, this is not the type of question one expects to hear at a bus stop. ‘Do you have the time?’ or ‘Do you know if this bus stops at x?’ types of questions are the norm.
Secondly, it takes the brain a couple seconds (though it seems much longer) to process this unexpected and unusual question.
Yet the tactic worked as I ended up talking to the guy. I think my first words were ‘what?!’
