Senior Dating in the News

Two tidbits about senior dating:

  • According to internet research, more and more seniors are dating online.  18 percent of all internet daters in January 2005 were 55 years or over.  That’s 4.8 million daters!

"Date.com says sign-ups of members age 65 and older increased 78.5 percent from January 2004 to January 2005. Match.com , one of the biggest online dating sites, in January attracted 704,000 visitors age 55 or older, up from 606,000 a year earlier."

  • Beware of Scams

A con artists used an online dating service and scammed $100,000 out of a widow.

While we want to think everyone has good intentions on an online dating site, some don’t.  So trust your gut.  If you’re not sure about something, put off any decision until you can talk about it with a trusted family member or friend.

To keep up to day on the latest scams – both offline and online – visit the Better Business Bureau(R).  They have a list of current (and older) scams on their website.  If your gut is telling you that something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t!
